About the job
Purpose of the role: To assist the Head Coach in planning and delivering high-quality rugby development sessions at Switch Rugby Academy (SRA), North Somerset Centre, inspiring young players aged U12-U14 to develop their rugby skills, confidence, and passion for the game.
- Location: Hornets RFC, North Somerset
- Session time: Mondays, 5:00pm – 6:00pm (term time only – all 6 school terms)
- Remuneration: £20 per session plus Switch Rugby branded coaching kit
- Contract type: Part-time, term-time only
- Start date: Monday, 20th April 2026
- Closing date for applications: Thursday, 2nd April 2026
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and delivering engaging, high-quality rugby sessions for U12-U14 players.
- Support the development of players’ rugby skills, tactical understanding, and game awareness through skill acquisition practices, tactical activities, and gameplay.
- Provide personalized coaching and feedback to individual players to help them set and achieve personal development goals.
- Foster a positive, supportive, and challenging learning environment that prioritizes enjoyment and player progression.
- Maintain high standards of behaviour, attitude, and effort from all participants.
- Ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of all players during sessions.
- Build positive relationships with players, parents, and colleagues.
- Contribute to the evaluation and continuous improvement of SRA sessions.
- Communicate effectively with the Head Coach, parents, and fellow coaching staff.
- Support the broader work of Switch Rugby Academy, including Performance Camps during school holidays and additional rugby programmes as opportunities arise.
Personal Specification
Essential:
- Hold an England Rugby Coaching Award (ERCA) or be actively working towards this qualification.
- Experience working with secondary school-aged children (11-14 years).
- A passion for rugby and inspiring young players to develop their skills and love for the game.
- Ability to form positive relationships with young players and their families.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to provide constructive, personalized feedback.
- Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a coaching team.
- Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and safeguarding.
- Punctual, reliable, and flexible approach to meeting session requirements.
Desirable:
- Previous coaching experience in rugby clubs or academy environments.
- Understanding of player development pathways in rugby.
- Level 3 Paediatric First Aid or First Aid at Work qualification (can be completed in post).
- Safeguarding qualification at Level 2 or above (can be completed in post).
- Experience working with mixed-gender youth sports groups.
- Experience of rugby performance pathways or academy environments.
