Switch Rugby Academy

Switch Rugby Academy

U12 to U14 Player Development Programme

The Switch Rugby Academy fosters a passion for rugby by creating an environment where young players can enhance both their competence and confidence. Switch Rugby believe that when players find joy in learning and improving their skills, they are more likely to stay engaged with the sport over the long term.

To help players develop, Switch Rugby offers a blend of skill acquisition practices, tactical activities, and gameplay. This comprehensive approach ensures that young players can translate their newfound knowledge into performance on the field.

A key feature of Switch Rugby sessions is the emphasis on personalized coaching. With a low coach-to-player ratio of 1:10 or less, each player receives frequent individual feedback and can set and achieve personal goals. This personalized attention is crucial for building confidence and mastering new skills.

By setting high expectations for behaviour, attitude, and effort, while also being sensitive to the varying levels of physical, emotional, and social maturity within age groups, the staff at Switch Rugby create a supportive and challenging environment that promotes learning through enjoyment.

Understanding that rugby is a sport where players often develop later, the Academy encourages a high-tempo, exciting style of play within its sessions. This approach not only helps in skill development but also prepares players to adapt to different positions, coaching styles, and playing conditions in the future.

While Switch Rugby occasionally offers girls-only activities, we have found that mixed-gender sessions are generally more effective for those who are serious about progressing in the sport. However, the Academy carefully considers age, stage of development, and gender to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for all players.

Overall, Switch Rugby Academy offers a rich learning experience designed to help aspiring rugby players reach their full potential, all while ensuring they enjoy the journey.
